Foundation

Start of activity as a sole proprietorship by the founder, José Guilherme de Sousa, involving the cutting, transportation, and sale of pine wood in the center of Arco de Baúlhe.

Sawmill

Investment in a production facility focused on the primary processing of wood, for various purposes: construction, blackboards, boats, railway sleepers, etc.

1961

WOODEN PACKAGING

Specialization of the factory in the production of boxes for packing fruits and vegetables, beginning a path with a primarily export-oriented focus.

1977

2nd GENERATION

Extension of the company to the 2nd generation, with the business adopting its current name: José Guilherme de Sousa & Filhos, Lda.

1994

CURRENT LOCATION

Relocation of the industrial plant from Arco de Baúlhe to Pedraça, with significant investment in the modernization of facilities and machinery.

2013

BEEKEEPING

Vertical integration of beehive manufacturing, after several decades of sawing wood for this industry, thus entering a new market.

2016

3rd GENERATION

Transition from the 2nd to the 3rd generation, with ownership and management now within the family core of Francisco José Oliveira de Sousa.

2018

HIVE FACTORY

Investment under the PT2020 framework in the largest beehive factory in Europe, enabling JGS to control the entire production process, from log reception to delivery of the finished product.

2020

FACTORY SHOP

Opening of the largest physical store entirely dedicated to beekeeping in Portugal, leveraging the “good reputation” that beehives have brought to the JGS brand.

2023

Online Store

Offering the JGS catalog virtually, allowing purchases directly from the new platform.
